Show Review – The Tontons – The White Rabbit – Fountain Square- 9/7/14

Houston’s The Tontons opened for TYPHOON at the White Rabbit in Indy this last weekend, and they were fantastic.

I have heard of them but never made the time to give them a listen, so I was very excited to arrive at the venue to find out that they were the openers.the tontons You expect certain things from bands out of Texas, or Texans in general, definitely not incredible, dreamy, grungy, Indie-pop.

I’m glad I saw them live, because their most recent release is great, but doesn’t convey the raw power of their performance. Each member really was spectacular especially Asli, who completely entranced the crowd with her soaring vocals and her beauty. Her  prowess is not easily matched by many other vocalist, and paired with incredible guitar it really helps The Tontons stand out from the crowd.

If you happen to be in one of the cities on the tour MAKE THE TIME to go see them. Worth it. At least check out their Bandcamp here:http://tontons.bandcamp.com/music

And spend some time going through their older releases where you find some true gems, such as “Leon” and “Atlas” the latter sounding very Hendrixy.
